​K-5 Guidance Curriculum Objectives

​

1st Grade 

  • Students will express the four basic feelings through the use of "I" statements and describe two appropriate ways to cope with negative emotions.

  • Students will identify the characteristics of a good friend.

  • Students will compare similarities and differences between themselves and others.

  • Students will be able to  identify personal roles and responsibilities in the school.

  • Students will identify positive solutions to conflict situations.

  • Students will discriminate between safe and unsafe situations and list five positive alternatives to an unsafe/inappropriate activity. 

  • Students will discriminate between healthy and unhealthy substances. 

  • Students will list the steps of the refusal skill (Say'no', Get away, Tell a trusted adult)

  • ​Students will identify two reasons why people work.

  • Students will demonstrate the three work habits of listening, following directions, and staying on task.

  • Students will identify a trusted adult from each setting:  school and outside of school. 

  • Students will list five positive alternatives to an unsafe/inappropriate activity. 

2nd Grade 

  • Students will express a variety of feelings through the use of "I" statements, and identify two appropriate ways to cope with negative emotions.

  • Students will identify and demonstrate skills needed for developing and maintaining friendships.

  • Students will identify positive solutions to conflict situations.

  • Students will compare similarities and differences between themselves and another.

  • Students will identify personal strengths and personal weaknesses.

  • Students will identify personal responsibilities in school and in the community

  • Students will appropriately demonstrate how to get help from a trusted adult.

  • Students will list the steps of the refusal skill (Say 'no', Get away, Tell a trusted adult).

  • Students will discriminate between healthy and unhealthy substances.

  • Students will demonstrate the skills needed to complete assignments independently.

  • Students will identify two reasons why people work.

  • Students will identify careers from each of the six Career Pathways. 

 

Kindergarten

  • Students will identify a trusted adult inside and outside of the school as a source of help.

  • Students will discriminate between healthy and unhealthy substances.

  • Students will list the steps of the refusal skill (Say 'no', Get away, Tell a trusted adult).

  • Students will demonstrate the work habits of listening, following directions, and staying on task.

  • Students will identify two reasons why people work.

  • Students will identify careers from each of the six Career Pathways.

  • Students will be able to identify feelings of happy, sad, mad and afraid and identify two appropriate ways to cope with negative emotions. 

  • Students will compare similarities and differences between themselves and others.

  • Students will demonstrate ways to be a friend and identify positive solutions to conflict situations.

  • Students will identify responsibilities of family members and self.

  • Students will discriminate between safe and unsafe situations and will list five positive alternatives to an unsafe or inappropriate activity. 

3rd Grade 

  • Students will identify sources for help for self, family, and friends in an unhealthy/unsafe situation.

  • Students will select positive solutions to a conflict situation.

  • Students will describe one harmful effect for each gateway drug.

  • Students will describe responsibilities of family members and self.

  • Students will demonstrate positive work habits and identify test taking strategies.

  • Students will compare and contrast work habits and academic skills needed for career sucess. 

  • Students will describe two or more personal strengths or weaknesses in different areas (academic, social emotional, character, extracurricular, etc.)

  • Students will demonstrate the skills to devleop and maintain friendships.

  • Students will select appropriate coping strategies for a given bullying/harassment situation from the witness and target perspective.

  • Students will demonstrate the steps fo the refusal skill in response to a given unsafe situation.

  • Students will discriminate betwen safe and unsafe situations.

4th Grade 

  • Students will describe responsibilities of family members and self as well as identify strategies to cope with family and/or life changes.

  • Students will describe one harmful effect for each gateway drug.

  • Students will demonstrate an appropriate refusal skill in response to a peer pressure situation.

  • Students will demonstrate positive work habits and identify test taking strategies.

  • Students will identify two career pathways and list their personal abilities, skills and interests related to each choice. 

 

  • Students will demonstrate appropriate strategies for developing and maintaining friendships.

  • Students will apply positive solutions to a conflict situation.

  • Students will apply for coping with bullying/harassment situations. .

  • Students will demonstrate the steps of the refusal skill in response to a given unsafe situation.

  • Students will be able to discriminate between safe and unsafe situations and identify sources of help for self, family, and friends in an unhealthy/unsafe situation.

5th Grade 

  • Students will describe responsibilities of family members and self as well as identify strategies for managing life changes.

  • Students will describe one harmful effect for each gateway drug.

  • Students will plan and demonstrate an appropriate refusal skill in response to a peer pressure situation.

  • Students will demonstrate positive work habits and identify test taking strategies.

  • Students will identify two career pathways and list their personal abilities, skills and interests related to each choice.

  • Students will describe two or more personal strengths or weaknesses in different areas (academic, social, emotional, character, extracurricular, etc.) 

 

  • Students will demonstrate how to use appropriate strategies for developing and maintaining friendships.

  • Students will create positive solutions to a conflict situation.

  • Students will demonstrate appropriate coping strategies for a given bullying/harassment situation from the witness and target perspective.

  • Students will distinguish between normal peer conflict and bullying/harassment situations and identify goals of bullying behavior.

  • Students will be able to discriminate between safe and unsafe situations and identify sources of help for self, family, and friends in an unhealthy/unsafe situation.
