Promoting Peace in Our School Community

Teaching peace.

Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS):

We are committed to keeping Westview School safe for all students.  Westview's school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) program teaches, promotes, and rewards positive behaviors. Through weekly PBIS lessons, students are taught how to be respectful, responsible, and safe.  Monthly character traits such as Respect, Compassion, Citizenship, Responsibility, Cooperation, Integrity, Initiative, Perseverence, and Self-Control are also taught and encouraged.

School counselors at Westview play an integral role in the PBIS program.  We offer Small Group Social Skills (SGSS), meet daily with students participating in Check In/Check Out, and  participate in the PBIS school committees.  Counselors may also meet with students individually as they work towards their personal behavior goals.

Guidance Curriculum:

In addition to PBIS, school counselors teach classroom guidance units on Friendship and Bully Prevention which teach students how to handle peer conflict, how to make and keep friends, as well as how to deal with bullying.  Counselors help students learn the difference between normal peer conflict and bullying/harrassment and the difference between tattling and reporting.  They learn that bullying is purposeful, targeted, and continuous.  Counselors also teach students to embrace diversity and accept others' differences.  For more information about the School Counseling curriculum, please click on "Curriculum Objectives" on the tool bar above.

ESSD - School Board Policy:

Our message and goals are clear:  Westview promotes peace and a sense of belonging with all students and we do not tolerate bullying/harassment. For a closer look at out our school policy on bullying, click on this box:
